Presentation:  Qualified is not Competent, Competent is not Qualified – exploring common qualification and competency misconceptions

Qualifications do not relate to competency and a person working with backflow prevention can have many levels of qualifications and still produce poor work.  How does one ‘become’ competent? It may be different for many people and what one sees as competence may only be an illusion of competence.  This presentation explores the myth around qualifications making a person competent and proposes the competence equation of Competence = knowledge + skills + experience, where a mixture of each adds to the competence level of the individual. 

This function attracts 1 x CPD point for AHSCA Qld Chapter consultant members.
